Wildfire, Kern County, San Luis Obispo County

Kern County CA: The Antelope Fire in Kern County is moving south west into the grasslands of San Luis Obispo County. Approximately 2,500 acres have been scorched as of 5pm 6-19-2011. At 10:00 am on 6-20-2011 KERO TV is reporting that the fire has grown to 5,000 acres per a Kern County spokesman.

Location: The fire is 5 to 7 miles south of Highway 46 along Antelope Road, west of Highway 33 and north east of Highway 58.

Resources: Several air tankers, hand crews and a type 1 team from Cal Fire have been ordered in addition to a second alarm assignment from Kern County and BLM. Cal Fire crews will be entering the fire area through the Cariso Planes along Highway 58, caution in the area since large dozers are on order and the roads have limited access. Paso Robles Air Attack Base was very busy reloading air craft today.

Fuels: The fire is burning in light flashy fuels, grass and mixed brush, temperatures were in the 80's today. One small out building was reportedly destroyed, unknown value.

Weather: High pressure is expected to build over the region bringing in warmer temperatures and lower humidity. By Tuesday and Wednesday the high pressure may usher in temperatures of triple digits in the valleys and deserts with the possibility of single digit humidity and mild offshore flow. The deserts of San Luis Obispo, Kern, Ventura and Antelope Valley will have temperatures exceeding the high 90's and will have the first taste of summer. However a low pressure system will move down the coast by Friday increasing the marine layer at the coast and cooling temperatures.
